I belong to a paint group called "Pieces of Eight". We meet every Monday and it is the highlight of my week. Last year we spent several months studying "the masters" and attempting to duplicate their paintings. We had two exhibitions which we call "Friends and Faux". This is my version of the VanGogh seascape. Leave a comment if you are interested in purchasing this 11x14 painting and I will reply with purchase information.Thursday, October 2, 2014

Small Seascape | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Atlantic Rush by Carol Schiff | 8x10" Oil SOLD
I created this small seascape from my memories of the beautiful beaches that surround us here in the state of Florida.
I painted with a brush and pallet knife to show texture in the waves rushing to shore and the sea oats rising above the protective dunes.
The more I travel, the more I am in awe of our beautiful world, including the beauty of my home state. It is so easy to forget the beauty that surrounds you. Take a moment today to find your beauty.

Seascape Painting, Small Oil Painting, "The Green Sea" by Carol Schiff, 8x10x1.5"
Living on the coast of Florida, I love going to the beach for inspiration.
The mood and colors of the sea change drastically and often, so you never know which sea you will find.
Some days it is hot and hazy, or choppy or calm as a lake. The color may be blue, green, turquoise or maybe muddy. When a storm moves in, everything changes quickly.
The mood of my seascapes also change. Some of them are full of texture and color, some not so much. This one was quite a challenge for me, I just couldn't mix the colors I wanted or make my brush behave. It took a few tries, but eventually I created a painting I was happy with.

Small Seascape | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Morning Light by Carol Schiff | 8x10 Original Oil
I have been spending so much time in the Blue Ridge Mountains, my trips to the beaches have suffered. Time to roll out of bed before the sun, grapb a cup of coffee and go for a short drive to the sea.
Just as I arrive, the sun starts it's slow climb above the horizon. I have forgotten how peaceful and beautiful it is on the beach at this time of day. Way down the beach, I can see a fisherman, but other than him we are alone with the birds who are looking for breakfast.
It is so enjoyable here, cool, serene.....I feel refreshed and ready to start my day.
Do you have a happy place too?
This painting was commissioned by a client who saw a similar work on the Etsy site. The piece she wanted was already sold. I was happy to do a similar painting in the size she desired.

Painting on Sale | Small Seascape | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Offshore Storm by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Oil
Today's painting on sale brings back some not so pleasant memories.
My husband and I were walking the beach on afternoon, when suddenly the sky was filled with black clouds. The beach is not the place to be when a storm comes in so we quickly returned to our car.......but not before I took a quick photo. There was just a streak of light on the horizon as the black clouds closed in.
Now for the deal of the day.....Purchase at the link above and you will be charged $89.95 and shipping. You must write ART SALE on the order to receive the discount. As soon as I receive your payment, I will return a credit of $20.00 to your credit card or PayPal account.
This sale is only for readers of my blog, so if you don't write ART SALE on the order, I won't know you saw it here and you won't get a rebate.
This offer expires on Friday Sept. 5, 2014 at 12:01 a.m. PDT.

Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Seascape, "Pacific Blue" 4x12" SOLD
Most of my seascapes are from the Atlantic, or the Caribbean, but today I am visiting the Pacific.
My reference photo was taken a few years ago on a trip to California with my daughter and granddaughter. We were in San Francisco most of the trip, but one afternoon we drove south to Half Moon Bay.
For us east coasters, the Pacific was an untamed beast, quite different from our usually gentle Atlantic. Just that fact that we were peering down from a cliff and that the brave souls who ventured to the beach were all ON THE SHORE was foreign. Not that we do not have sunbathers on the shore, but there are ALWAYS bathers or surfers in the water, even on the coldest of days.
I decided to use a palette knife on this scene to help capture the power and texture.
